Keni House, Comba – where Gulaal originates

During the transfer of Shri Damodar idol from Madgaon to escape Portuguese authorities, the mahajans briefly halted at the house of Shri Purushottam Keni situated in Comba in Madgaon. Since the house was still in the precincts of the Portuguese rule, this stay was brief and the troupe set off further down South to cross the Zuari river.

However, to this day, this place holds a special place for Dambab’s devotees. The famous Gulaalotsav is started only after a Shreefal (coconut) that is worshipped at the Keni house is brought to the Jambavli temple. In the meanwhile, a number of socio-cultural activities continue at the Keni house in this period.
